Wolverine always claims to be the best there is at what he does. But what does he do, exactly? Knit scarves? Debug programming code? Judging from the past several decades of Wolverine comics, we'd argue that what Wolverine does best is endure mountains of pain and suffering. Compared to him, heroes like Batman and Spider-Man got off light.
Wolverine's penchant for suffering doesn't look to ease up any as he returns to theaters in The Wolverine this week. This hotly anticipated sequel explores Wolverine's quest for happiness and redemption after the tragic events of X-Men: The Last Stand.
While usually we celebrate the release of a new superhero movie with one of our Top 25 Comics features, we wanted to do something a bit different for the Wolverine. Instead, we've decided to explore the darkest and most tragic events that have shaped the Ol' Canucklehead across his long life in both the comics and movies. Whether it's dead girlfriends or dead children, it's easy to see why Wolverine is so grumpy.
