Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow...
Vikings may still have a few problems when it comes to making us care about certain characters, but "Trial" was definitely the most action-oriented episode thus far; depicting not just a bloody raid on an actual Northumbrian township, but a costly encounter with King Aella's soldiers on the beach. So while I might not have necessarily cared about any Viking who fell during the fight, it was still interesting to watch the difference in tactics, and how out-matched the English soldiers were after Ragnar had his men turn themselves into a wall of shields. In fact, most of the first fifteen minutes of the episode worked very well from a "fly on the wall" observer aspect.
