Revolution is back after a four month hiatus with an episode that had some strong elements, but doesn't quite live up to the potential of the midseason finale. The freshman series exited on its best episode to date, and the hope was that it would come back guns blazing character-wise. "The Stand" felt a little bit like business as usual, though.
The show is at its best when it's intercuttung between the past and present. There's something strangely satisfying about watching the tragedy unfold with the benefit of hindsight. We know where these people are headed, so watching the choices they make that lead to their ultimate undoing adds an element of fascination to what is, mostly, an enjoyable science fiction diversion. It's true that there are several logical breaks in the series, but if we let go of those and accept the conceit for what it is - the Wild West/Civil War redux - it's a fun little show.
