Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.
"Truth and Consequences" lacked the grace the last episode had. The narrative was overall clunky and stumbled into the good preacher getting bit by a live, poisonous snake and Raylan watching a dude shoot himself in the head and barely flinching.
There's a saying in the newspaper industry: drown your puppies. Do the things that you need to to finish the story—or, in this case, move on with it. This episode was drowning the show's puppies.
This wasn't going to be Justified's best episode of the year, but it was at least an average to above-average in the general content pool of TV. Walton Goggins was once again a wonderful Boyd. Timothy Olyphant was once again the embodiment of the Elmore Leonard character. We watch this show for the characters and the slice of rural Kentucky life stuff and when they nail the plot, the show is in top form.
