Apple has announced that more than 40 billion apps have been downloaded from the App Store. Nearly half of those downloads came in 2012, and December alone saw more than two billion App downloads.
"It has been an incredible year for the iOS developer community," said Apple senior vice president of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue. "Developers have made over seven billion dollars on the App Store, and we continue to invest in providing them with the best ecosystem so they can create the most innovative apps in the world."
Apple reports that there are more than 500 million active accounts on the App Store and that more than 775,000 apps have been created for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch worldwide, with 300,000 available natively for iPad. Apps are available in 155 countries and across 23 categories.
