There has been talk of a sequel to director Danny Boyle's popular drug drama, Trainspotting, for years. The helmer had a falling out with star Ewan MacGregor after he cast Leonardo DiCaprio in The Beach in a role that was originally meant for MacGregor. Many thought that the rift had permanently derailed any hopes for a follow-up to Trainspotting. In a recent interview with The Playlist, however, Boyle said that he is indeed hopeful to move forward with a sequel by 2016.
Trainspotting scribe John Hodge is currently working on an adaptation of author Irvine Welsh's novel Porno, which tells the story of the Trainspotting character's later-in-life foray into the world of pornography. Welsh, of course, also wrote the book that the original film was based on.
