Have you seen a payphone, recently? The experience is kind of like finding a velociraptor in the back of a hotel lobby. Younger Americans probably have almost no memory of a time when making a public phone call required actually finding a phone, but there's still an astonishing 11,412 of these artifacts all over New York City. As reported by VentureBeat, the city's Reinvent Payphones Initiative has given top honors to six tech-savy designs.
