Kick-Ass was the little superhero movie that could. Shot on a (relatively) low-budget, introducing a comic-book character who was the new kid on the block, and featuring just one full-on movie star in the shape of Nicolas Cage, the film nevertheless contained more energy and excitement than most of the big-budget blockbusters it ribbed, doing modest box office business and building up something of a cult following post-release.
So three years on the film has earned itself a sequel in the shape of Kick-Ass 2, although this time around there are changes both behind-the-scenes and onscreen. Helmer Matthew Vaughn takes a producing credit, with Jeff Wadlow – whose previous credits include Cry Wolf, Never Back Down – now scripting and directing.
