Batman: The Animated Series set the bar really, really high when it comes to adapting Batman for television. So much so that each subsequent animated series has needed to offer unique twists to help emerge from BTAS's shadow. For The Batman, it was an anime-inspired look and a focus on a younger Bruce Wayne. For Batman: The Brave and the Bold, it was a shift to a campy Silver Age tone and an emphasis on team-ups between Batman and various DC heroes.
And for the newest animated series, Beware the Batman, there are two major changes to the formula. The first is a switch from 2D animation to a CG-rendered style similar to that of Green Lantern: The Animated Series. The second is that Beware the Batman is ignoring many of Batman's iconic villains in favor of a new batch that have either rarely appeared in animated form or never at all. Instead of Joker, Penguin, and Catwoman, fans can look forward to Professor Pyg, Mr. Toad, and Anarky.
