Despite ending with an awkward standoff-turned-awkward slaughter on the beaches of Northumbira, "Dispossessed" was a quiet episode that focused heavily on Athelstan's newfound experience as a viking farmer's slave. And a lot of it worked really well, with Athelstan's entire world getting turned upside-down. Fortunately, Athelstan's master is Ragnar, a more "enlightened" viking than the rest who can see the value in men who have actual thoughts in their heads. Especially thoughts that are foreign to his own. Ragnar's curiosity, while contemptuous, saved Athelstan's life and now it's brought them closer together.
