While not as epic as last week's barnburner, "The Life We've Chosen" shook up all the major players emotionally, undoubtedly paving the way for future divisions within Division that promise to be as painful as they are necessary. I mean, I love the Super Friends, but it's just not dramatically sustainable for them to all be united against Amanda. Angst is one of the show's best ingredients, and that means our heroes have to wander away from one another in order to rediscover how much they need each other. And some of them have to die.
The relationship between Ari and Nikita was a delightful surprise. Yes, there's even room for Ari on her list of souls to save. Owen and Ari might not have any use for one another, but they do have one thing in common: Nikita is committed to helping them and no one else understands why. I loved how disappointed she was in Ari when he mocked Owen. He's responsible for countless deaths, and here she is scolding him for being mean to her friend. Ari knew he was doomed, and we should have known too since his death was so nicely foreshadowed when he arrived in South Ossetia in a coffin. He was wrong about Nikita though. He couldn't believe she'd do something so unstrategic as come to his rescue once Alex had been secured, but, as her fanboy Birkhoff would tell us, that's Niki. It was a great final performance by Peter Outerbridge on this series, who will be missed.
