Okay, I am feeling a pretty decent amount of sympathy for Rebekah. She'd had some funny lines in the past and made a decent enough antagonist, but this storyline is helping to make her far more sympathetic. Having her and Stefan team together – and then sleep together – could have just been about showing Stefan in a dark place, but instead it's gotten more complicated. The writers have done a good job of showing why Stefan would start to feel for her a bit more and in turn, given us a reason to do so.
Stefan and Rebekah's two-person school dance was, dare I say it, sweet and quite amusing, as we learned about Stefan's fandom for The Cure (of course) and Bon Jovi. I'm very glad they shelled out the money to get these big 80s songs for this episode too, which obviously were pretty integral given the context. Stefan missed a big opportunity though when he was explaining the plots of all those 80s when he didn't tell Rebekah she'd just "pulled a Breakfast Club" recently with the twisted detention she put Stefan, Elena and Caroline through.
