In Warner Bros.' The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Steve Carell stars as the titular superstar magician who, along with his partner Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi), is renowned across Las Vegas for having the best show in town. But after years of fame and fortune, Burt's ego becomes so bloated that he and his partner grow to loathe each other, and soon their squabbles reach the public eye. Facing cutthroat competition from an edgy street magician named Steve Grey (Jim Carrey), Burt and Anton must learn to put their differences aside in order to reclaim their former glory.
In February of last year, IGN and several other outlets had the pleasure of visiting the set of Burt Wonderstone in the esteemed Wadsworth Theater of Westwood, where we spoke with stars Carell, Buscemi and Olivia Wilde, as well as director Don Scardino (30 Rock) and producer Chris Bender. Upon entering the auditorium, the first thing that immediately caught my eye was the fact that most of the seats were filled with, not people, but dummy torsos wearing wigs, as if to create the illusion of a packed audience. My confusion was soon quelled as the cameras rolled and Carell and Buscemi came bursting through a raised veil of white paper, descending from wires onto the stage below. (Don't let it be said these guys don't make one hell of an entrance!) Best of all, though, were Carell and Buscemi's bedazzled velvet costumes and gold jewelry, resembling the iconic Siegfried and Roy getups of the 1980s and '90s.
