It's not uncommon for a mobile game to include well over a dozen hours of gameplay. But this desire to produce a huge volume of content often comes at the expense of gameplay variety, balance or overall quality. What good does it do to have 10+ hours of content if it's all repetitive or bland?
With Super Stickman Golf 2, developer Noodlecake has managed to avoid this pitfall and create that elusive video game cocktail: a game with a truly impressive amount of gameplay, lots of variety and a bevy bonus challenges for completionists. It's a rare sequel that truly does improve on its predecessor in essentially every way.
The basic stickman golf formula remains simple and unchanged – you progress through the 20 2D courses by setting your shot angle via simple touch-screen arrows and your power with a one-touch timing minigame. The sequel's cartoony stick figure golfers and functional scenery aren't impressive, but the extremely catchy, vastly improved and varied soundtrack makes up for any visual deficiencies. The early courses offer plenty of gentle curves, but things escalate quickly. Ball portals into water hazards, magnetized walls that shove your ball in unexpected ways and ball-vaporizing lasers are among the nastier hazards you'll encounter.
