Trevor McCarthy takes over art duties from J.H. Williams III with Batwoman #18 and while he puts in a valiant effort, it's entirely possible that Williams has shoes that are perhaps too large for any one artist to fill. Batwoman's artwork has been the title's strongest element since its launch, carrying it through occasionally middling plots with enough visual magic that one hardly noticed the shortcomings in the writing, and Williams' absence is keenly felt in the page's of this month's issue. The tale that Williams and co-writer W. Haden Blackman are spinning has potential but it's not quite there yet.
