Pirates of the Burning Sea Will No Longer Be Run by Sony

Sony Online Entertainment has announced today that the company will removing the MMORPG Pirates of the Burning Sea from its, "SOE family of games on January 31, 2013." The game will remain free-to-play, but will be run by a new company called Portalus Games. Portalus Games is apparently a new company composed of former employees of Flying Lab Software, who originally released Pirates of the Burning Sea in 2008.

If you want to retain your SOE characters on the servers run by Portalus, you will need to link your SOE account information to a new Portalus before January 31, 2013. Today's press release does emphasize that, "none of your SOE account data or personal information will be transferred in this process." You can get more infomation about how to create a Portalus account on the studio's official website, as well as learn more about the relaunch of Pirates.
