Swamp Thing Blu-ray Review

First of all, let's just pause for a second to think how odd it is that Swamp Thing has been in two movies and a 72-episode live-action TV series, making him the DC Comics character with the most live-action appearances not directly connected to Superman and Batman. Not that the character isn't worthwhile or hasn't been in some great comics, but still… Swamp Thing has had two movies! Take that Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Flash!

Shout! Factory have given the initial 1982 Swamp Thing feature film its best home video release by far via a recently released Blu-ray/DVD combo set. The film stars Ray Wise as Doctor Alex Holland, a scientist whose work is stolen by the evil Dr. Anton Arcane (Louis Jourdan), even as Jourdan's attempts to kill Holland instead result in Holland's own formula transforming him into the Swamp Thing (Dick Durock). Swamp Thing goes on to fight Arcane's men, while developing a Beauty and the Beast-type dynamic with Alice Cable (Adrienne Barbeau), the government agent who was in the midst of a burgeoning romance with Holland before his… changes.
