If you read 100 Bullets, you no doubt have a hard time accepting Lono's path to redemption. This guy was the worst of the worst, committing one horrendous act after another. The ultimate villain in every single way. What makes Brother Lono work as a story is that the title character doesn't even believe he can be saved; he knows what we know. He locks himself up at night and avoids nearly everyone because he, like the reader, knows that he'll never truly escape who he is. It's only a matter of time.
