Marvel's Digital Comics Unlimited (now official truncated to Marvel Unlimited) service has been up and running on the web for years now. For a monthly or annual subscription fee ($10/$60 respectively), it allows users access to thousands of old Marvel Comics in a fashion similar to Spotify or Netflix; you aren't purchasing these books, merely borrowing. While the service is cool, it has been sorely missing one key component: mobile capability. Not anymore.
Starting today, the new Marvel Unlimited app is available for iOS (with Android coming soon). Containing around 13,000 comics, Marvel Unlimited's offerings are at least six months old -- so if you're planning on subscribing to get recent comics, expect to be a few months behind -- and, from my own previous experience, you'll stumble across gaps in collections. But new comics are added each and every week, so hopefully, as the service grows, the selection will become increasingly robust.
