Sony may be keeping the PlayStation 4 hardware under wraps, but we got a closer look at its new controller — the DualShock 4. Sporting an integrated touch pad, quick-access share button, and a built-in PS Move-like LED tracker, the DualShock 4 is a drastic departure from the PlayStation 3's DualShock 3. What's more, it's a vastly more refined variation of the prototype version that leaked online earlier this month. So, what's new and what's changed?
In order to accomodate the new touch pad and integrated LED, Sony has had to adjust the overall layout and design of the DualShock 4, while also making some long-requested improvements. While not drastically larger — in fact, the two share similar dimensions — Sony has altered the grips and layout to give more surface area in the center. The handles appear to have been widened and shaped to make it more attuned to the shape of a player's hands, and the thumbsticks now sport convex pads with distinct outer ridges. The materials used on the bottom of the controller are also notably textured.
