Touch: Season 2 Premiere Review

Advance Review: It's no small favor asking those viewers who stuck with Touch during Season 1 to ingest a two-hour premiere. At its very core, this show is about begging, pleading and panicking, and that can wear you out fast. Last year, Touch was able to shamefully shine during some of its "we're all connected" stories. But while a few really hit the mark and brought about the tears, others were just sloppy and stereotypical, suggesting that the way we're all in harmony on this planet is when foreigners fall in love with Western pop culture and ideals.

Touch most likely won't last longer than this second season, and while a move to Fridays and a revamp of the cast and location might suggest a series that had creative struggles, I'm going to stand up in defense if the changes this time around. I think that, should the show defy ratings trends and move on to Seasons 3 and 4, reboots fit this show well. As long as Martin, Jake and the conspiracy remain, their surroundings can change. And if you're going to say that they just changed the show because they hit a dead-end with the New York story, then you're right. They took it as far as it could go. And I'm very happy we're not dealing with Gugu Mbatha-Raw's Clea and the kid shelter back in Manhattan. If a story is done, then let it be done. So this is that rare, serendipitous occasion when a retooling was actually in order and it fits the story.
