Is Meagan Leeds ever going to get out of that basement? At this point it feels like the series could close and she'd still be stuck down there with her flesh wound. It was almost comical when Hardy re-taped the poor girl's mouth. I will say this, though, The Following revved up the action engine this week and that extra bit of movement and energy may be just what the show needed.

Pretty soon I'm going to just give up on waiting for The Following  to rise above the standard thriller tropes, which include the characters consistent bad decision making and logic breaks, and just give over to the WTF, highly disturbing ride of it all. One of the issues over the last several episodes had been that the show felt like it was straddling the line between wanting to be a "high end" cable drama and a nightmarish, but deliciously frothy nighttime soap. The end result was that it didn't really achieve either goal, entirely.
