Next to character deaths and costume changes, romantic relationships are probably the most heated topic of conversation fans have in comics. Sure, it's just another plot point to argue but I think there's something more at play.
At their core, comics are fantasy wish fulfillment. Heroes aren't just supposed to have enviable musculature; most of them have great lives too. And for our most popular heroes, love is part of that equation. But considering long-standing comic ideas have been wiped out faster than you can say "crisis," why is it romance has stood the test of time?
I say romance but I really mean specific pairings in this case. Romance plays a role in most comic stories just as action and adventure do, and while it may not be the main focus, it does affect our heroes in a significant way. So considering the time of year, I decided to take a look at three of comics most enduring couples.
