Arrow: "Betrayal" Review

Plenty of stuff and things and whatnot went down in Arrow this week, but only one element really mattered. This was the episode where Manu Bennett finally made his debut as an unmasked Deathstroke. Of course, it quickly became apparent that the situation involving Deathstroke, Yao Fei, and everyone else on the island is even more complicated than previously suspected. What is it about TV shows featuring castaways on remote islands that brings out all the crazy plot twists? I half expected the smoke monster to emerge when Ollie reached the wrecked plane in the middle of the jungle.

Luckily, Bennett did not disappoint at all in his portrayal of Slade. Which is good, because so many of the villains on this show do nothing but disappoint (more on that later). He brought all the intensity and physical presence that he's become known for in Spartacus. Whats more, he was fairly likable and certainly identifiable in his single-minded quest to get the hell off the island. From his first scene, Slade's role cast serious doubt on whether he was actually the same man who was serving as Fyers' bodyguard and had tortured Ollie. Had I not known that Bennett was specifically cast as Slade, I might not even have suspected that's who he was. Is there some sort of elaborate ruse at play that seems to cause Yao Fei and Deathstroke to shift allegiances with every episode?
